Arts Interventions in Therapy
Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (BST)
Newick, United Kingdom
This workshop offers an introduction as to why we might use the arts in therapy, as well as an experience of how they might valuably be employed.
Images can help us to ‘say the unsayable’ and the arts can offer a rich language to communicate and express experience, whilst also providing therapeutic containment. The arts can be helpful for clients who find talking difficult, as well as those clients who over-verbalise. Creative arts interventions can be employed effectively with all age groups and in most therapeutic contexts.
This workshop aims to provide you with some accessible, creative interventions requiring no special equipment or resources, which in turn, may be integrated into your own practice and way of working. No artistic ability is required!
Tutor: Suki Abbott is a UKCP registered Arts Psychotherapist, with many years’ experience of using the arts in therapy. She runs a well-established private practice in the Weald of Kent, offering psychotherapy and supervision. A qualified trainer since 1991, Suki has delivered Arts Psychotherapy training within Further and Advanced Education and within a variety of training contexts throughout the South East of England. She has an extensive background in working with the arts to facilitate change, including ten years as a Community Arts facilitator in the North of England.
