Surely one of Sydney’s most picturesque suburbs, perched on a rocky peninsula surrounded by the sparkling waters of Middle Cove, Castlecrag was recognised as a special place by Canberra’s designer Walter Burley Griffin and his partner Marion Mahoney, way back in the 1920s. They made a plan for Castlecrag to develop as the perfect garden suburb, with small houses surrounded by trees and rocky outcrops.
However, it always has been an architectural hot spot and includes houses by many of Australia’s most interesting practitioners of architecture.
Tour leader Ben Gerstel is a local architect who has developed this walking tour of leafy Castlecrag.
