Redefining Refuse - Toward a Zero Waste Chicago
Waste is a failure of design…or so we learned early in our sustainability studies! The next in Foresight's ongoing sustainable civic innovation series, this month's Green Drinks explores three different efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle. John Edel's "Plant" is seeking to create a closed loop system supporting a variety of companies who will put food (and drinks) on your table. Chicago's Waste-to-Profit network is helping businesses connect their waste streams with partners for whom the materials are raw materials, creating value and diverting tons of resources from landfills in the process. Finally, everyone's favorite topic, residential recycling, is getting renewed attention under Mayor Emmanuel. City Program Director - Recycling, Chris Sauvé, has been invited to share the latest about efforts to expand collection and reduce costs, as well as discuss what you can do to support a more robust local system, outside of consuming less, of course!.
