UK PREMIERE
Plus post-film discussion: with Mark Betz (Film critic)
Virtual history is the study of ‘what if’ scenarios, and this film addresses undoubtedly one of the biggest questions of the 20th century: what would have happened in Vietnam if Kennedy had lived and been re-elected?
Using recently declassified documents, rarely seen television footage, photographic and archive material, this film explores Kennedy’s record on the issues of war and peace in Vietnam, the Bay of Pigs, and other notable crises during his comparatively short time in office as the basis for a wider debate on presidential decision-making in the US.
Far from virtual, this is actual JFK in action, handling the press with humour and grace while steering a course that, it could be argued, at least twice prevented the start of the Third World War.
LIDF arises from a commitment to what it calls 'Conversations in Film'. These conversations
bring together diverse audiences and goes beyond the films themselves
in order to engage with social, cultural and political issues in the
company of relevant experts as well as the filmmakers themselves.
