Event Details

This is a brand new workshop offered here at the Lazy B Farm.  This workshop will cover the basic skills required to survive in the out of doors.  Our knowledgeable teacher, Butch, is self taught and has a wealth of knowledge and stories about his own use of wild plants and trees for medicinal and edible purposes.

This class is suitable for boys in grades 6th – 10th.

Our Basics workshop will cover:

Plant identification – poisonous and non-poisonous plants

Tree identification and uses

Shelter – how to build a shelter from tree limbs

Fishing pole construction and how to filet a fish

Fire building and fish frying

Purifying water

Schedule for the workshop:

8:45 – Arrival to Lazy B Farm

9:00 – Group gathers for introduction to Butch

9 – noon: Tree identification, shelter construction, plant identification

Noon: Lunch to be provided by Lazy B Farm

12:30 – 3:30: Construction of traps, fishing rod, fire building and preparation of fish

3:45 – end of session, pick up by parents
