Employee and student engagement in institutional sustainability programs holds multiple benefits to both the college and the community. Increasing college employee and student awareness and participation in sustainability efforts allows the college community to feel greater ownership; this often increases productivity, innovation, and efficiency. Through greater college community ownership, programs are often more successful, student and employee retention is higher, and the college's overall reputation improves among employees, students, and the surrounding communities. In this workshop, participants from across campus departments come together to focus in on employee and student engagement strategies, and the resulting behavioral change, as a means by which to increase awareness and participation in campus-based sustainability efforts. Drawing upon experiential and conversational techniques, the trainers will leverage proprietary tools created and applied within broad public and private social change initiatives to create an interactive and thought-provoking learning environment. Our intention is to provide insight into the pathway to engagement and ownership, and to create the opportunity for broad idea sharing for campus implementation approaches.
