Bellydance Basics, Classical Egyptian style with Amethyst
Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (EDT)
Beginner bellydance students (all levels welcome) will learn basic Classical Egyptian moves, using authentic Arab music and rhythms. Dancers will learn to line up their bodies with the beats of the drum, becoming one with the music. No experience necessary.

The director of ElectroBelly Dance Troupe (professional), plus two student troupes consisting of her students, Amethyst has been bellydancing since 1997, and teaching since 2001. Amethyst is a graduate of the Ansuya Comprehensive (taught by Bellydance Superstar Ansuya), having earned her certification in San Francisco and Miami; and has performed and/or taught bellydance in Pittsburgh (PA), San Francisco (CA), Amherst/Northampton (MA), Detroit (MI), and more.
Amethyst has taken workshops and lessons of a variety of styles, with popular instructors Karim Nagi/Turbo Tabla (Egyptian style), Deniz of Caravan Workshops (Lebanese, Turkish, Greek, Egyptian styles), Rachel Kay Brookmire of Sahara Dance (Washington, DC)(Classical Egyptian style), and Elizabeth "Artemis" Mourat (Silver Spring, MD) (Turkish styles).
Amethyst is the original creator of Pittsburgh's ElectroBelly parties - parties which include a bellydance show followed by a DJ'd open dance party with a blend of electronic and world music styles. ElectroBelly parties include bellydancers, singers, musicians, electronic music DJs, and guest acts such as break dancers, hoop dancers and more.
Amethyst co-stars in the performance DVD "ElectroBelly", with dancers Shanti and Astarte.
Amethyst teaches multiple weekly bellydance classes for various levels, and performs regularly.
