Event Details

Inspired by their respective TEDxColumbus talks, each session will be led by a former TEDxColumbus speaker who will choose a book and facilitate a discussion on the material.

Alex Bander (2011 Speaker)

Date: Wednesday, July 11th; 6:30-8pm

Book:  Good to Great  by Jim Collins

Why Alex chose this book: "Good to Great offers a quantitative approach to a notoriously difficult-to-quantify field: management. As an engineer and someone who is not a natural manager, I was influenced by Collins' analytical (and entertaining) principles of management as well as the author's own career. Collins started as a professor of management at Stanford University and then decided to create his own research firm that operats like a university department yet withouth the bureaucratic apparatus that is academia. In turn, I was deeply inspired to explore whether or not I could create a similar private, independent business that operates like a university industrial design department, absent the university. And thus, the Columbus Idea Foundry was born."

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
