Event Details
Prepare to enter into the Magical World of Play! Current research into how children learn indicates the importance of learning through play. It’s time to bring the concept into your home! Explore how the magical world of learning and play is essential in building a lifetime love of learning in your child. You will learn ways to enhance their play experience, creatively use play materials, and gain more cooperation—while having loads of fun in the process!
Facilitated by Kathy McDonald
With three sons between the ages of 12 and 14, Kathy McDonald is what we like to call a “super mom.” Between hockey practice, homework, and school dances, Kathy experiences the joys and challenges of parenthood on a daily basis. In addition to this first-hand experience, Kathy worked at a preschool for 4 years and as a Family Educator for parents and children enrolled in the Even Start Family Literacy program for 2 years. Kathy is a Senior Certified Parent Educator, facilitating group parenting workshops for parents at our location and going directly to homes to work one-on-one with parents enrolled in Parents as Teachers.

Children's Consortium
The Parent Academy at the Children’s Consortium is designed to be flexible around the needs and schedules of parents. Workshops are effective because they provide opportunities for interaction among parents, practice of concepts and techniques learned, and individualized problem solving.
Certified Parent Educators at the Children’s Consortium recognize that each child is unique and uniquely special, but that some children require more support than others. We believe in teamwork and collaboration between parents and professionals. We believe that a helped parent is a helped child.
Our programs focus on strengthening the role of parents and caregivers as the first and most important teacher of their own children.
Questions? Call 315-471-8331 to speak to a Parent Educator. They are available Monday- Friday, 8:30 - 4:30 to answer parent questions and to provide resources as you tackle the world’s most difficult job: raising a child.
