Event Details
The ‘Small is...’ festival is a weekend of workshops, talks, music, and other outdoor activities. Hosted by charities Practical Action and Engineers Without Borders (UK), this year’s festival will bring together the curious minds of experts, activists, students and families from around the world. Together we will share, learn and be inspired by sustainable living, international development, and appropriate technology.
Based on the principles of E. F. Schumacher the ‘Small is...’ festival will host a series of events including topical debates, lectures from inspirational and accomplished speakers, and workshops which offer a hands-on approach to mastering a diverse range of practical skills from yurt-building and constructing solar panels to advice on securing a career in the development sector.
This year’s theme is ‘Power to the People’... together over one summer weekend, we will create, debate, and share the evolution of our thinking. You don’t need expertise or experience to get stuck in, and with a wide range of activities accessible to all we are open to anyone who wants to be involved!

Festival Opening Times
The Festival will begin at 15:00 on Friday 31st August and finish at 17:00 on Sunday 2nd September.
The Weekend Tickets enable people to be on site for the whole of this time and camping is permitted on the Friday and Saturday night.
The Day Tickets enable access to the events and activities on either Saturday 1st September or Sunday 2nd September. Activities will run from 09:00 until late on Saturday 2nd September and from 9:00 until 17:00 on Sunday 2nd September.
The Campervan Ticket enables you to park one Campervan at the Festival for the Weekend.
The Car Parking Ticket enables you to park one Car at the Festival for the weekend, Please note however that we are encouraging lift sharing at the festival. Please check out our GoCarShare page at Small is.. Festival Car Share.
We have limited numbers of the Weekend Group Ticket available for the festival. The Group Ticket enables 5 entrants for price of 4 and grants entrance to the festival from 15:00 on Friday 31st August until 17:00 on Sunday 2nd September.
