No, it's not wine. Barleywine is the strongest style of beer. In fact, this tasting would be illegal in over ten states. Some states say there is too much alcohol in these beers. We disagree. These beers are full of flavor and complexity... and of course alcohol.
Join Will Stephens, co-founder of BeerMenus.com and Maggie Fuller, graduate of the UC Davis Master Brewers program and founder of Beer Ethos for a discussion of barleywines and drink their eight favorite examples of the style.
The offering:
-8 barleywines hand-picked by Will and Maggie
-discussion of the style and each beer
-meat/cheese/bread plate
-tasting notes
The beers:
Gales Prize Old Ale
JW Lees Harvest Ale
Thomas Hardy' Ale
Victory Old Horizontal
Nogne #100 Barleywine
Lagunitas Brown Shugga
Schafly Oak-Aged Barleywine
Sierra Nevada Big Foot 2009
