Please make 1 appointment per car seat, per car.
Through generous grant funding provided by Kohls’ Department Store, Rady Children’s Hospital is able to provide child passenger safety seat inspections. During these inspections, parents are educated in safety in and around vehicles, and technicians ensure that parents can install their car seat before they leave.
While making a reservation, please make 1 appointment per car seat, per car. As this is an inspection and correction service, please install the car seat prior to the appointment. Please clean the inside of your car for easy access for the technicians. The day of the appointment, please bring your car seat manual and car owner’s manual with you so that modifications can be made accurately. If possible, please bring your child to the appointment. For booster seats, your child must accompany you.
Appointments take approximately 30 minutes. If you are greater than 15 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule or wait until the end of all scheduled appointments for that day. If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so 24 hours in advance so that another family can receive this service.
Please note: we do not recommend that you purchase a used seat or accept a free seat if you do not know the crash history for that seat.
We provide consultation and installation services for children with special healthcare needs. We have several technicians trained specifically to address their needs. Please let our assistants know about your child’s special needs. It is helpful to have the name and phone number of the child’s physical or occupational therapist so that we work with them to ensure the most comfortable and safe transportation for your child.
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death due to unintentional injury in children ages 5-14 in San Diego County. While not all motor vehicle crashes are survivable, the use of an age-appropriate, properly installed child passenger safety seat reduces the risk of death or serious injury by 71 percent.
