Introduction

In 2007 ASTP started the first series of fly-in, fly-out site visits that ASTP is organizing to leading Technology Transfer Offices around Europe. So far we were able to organize two succesfull site visits to the Isis Enterprise in Oxford and the Catholic University Research & Development in Leuven.

We learned from these visits that they give valuable insights into the way that such offices operate, and of their organisation, genesis and underlying principles – vastly more than listening to any presentation or visiting any website. The take-home messages are likely to be very personal – it’ll be down to individual members to decide what they can apply back in their own environment.

On the 3rd of April 2009 ASTP organises a site visit to the Cancer Research Technology. This one day event  is structured to a series of talks, but with plenty of time for facilitated discussion. Numbers are limited to 40 participants in order to preserve an informal atmosphere. We are doing everything we can to keep the administration and participant costs as low as possible. Therefore it is only possible to sign up online via our webshop.

About Cancer Research Technology
Cancer Research Technology Limited (CRT) is the leading oncology focused technology transfer and development company which aims to maximise cancer patient benefit from publicly funded research.
CRT works closely with leading international cancer scientists, institutes and funding bodies to protect and develop intellectual property arising from their research and to establish links with commercial partners. We would like to refer to the website of CRT for more information about their organisation.

Why is CRT different to any other TTO?
CRT has 4 main USPs that differentiate themselves from many other technology
commercialisation organizations, like:
• Specialized in cancer research
• Its own ninety person industrial drug discovery resource, called the Discovery Laboratories
• Working to exploit the best cancer research to founders internationally, within Europe, USA, Australia
• The main focus on patient benefit

What makes the site visit attractive to take part in?
• Establishing and operating a drug discovery lab to bridge the gap from research to a commercialisable package
• Building international technology transfer relationships through a variety of vehicles:
- CRT Inc Boston - wholly owned subsidiary providing tech transfer services to US universities but also a marketing shop window for CRT UK
- CTx Melbourne - an academic drug discovery partner for whom CRT is the commercialisation agent
- How to aid in-house evaluation and development strategies through the use of specialist product teams
• How to aid market and customer knowledge through use of dedicated key account managers
• How CRT could be a development and/or commercialization partner for your cancer technologies
• Different commercialization successes and balancing patient/developments needs versus financial return
