Lunch and Learn: Developing training for immigrant tennants
Friday, September 7, 2012 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM (CDT)
Eden Prairie, MN
“Teaching our residents how to care for their apartments is like riding a bike. Once they learn they never forget it and they can teach others." - quote from Refugee Housing Leadership Program.
Helping Immigrant tennants know how to care for their apartment helps promote long term occupancy and good relationships with neighbors and management. Bring your lunch and join us for a presentation on how a Rochester management company built relationships with their community and developed a training curriculum to teach new immigrant families simple facts of American life and apartment care so that they become better tenants and citizens.
Bring your own bag lunch. Drinks and cookies will be provided.
For more information on the Rochester program see the video below.
Julie Hawker from Llyod Management Company in Mankato will be leading a discussion about the Refugee Housing Leadership Program she has initiated in her community. Julie began to investigate why immigrant families were not abiding by their rental lease agreements, causing violations and ultimate evictions from apartments. What she learned led to the creation of a new curriculum about caring for your apartment and a pilot program that is now in stages of being replicated statewide.
