Background on Sustain Charlotte Awards

In 2010, Charlotteans representing over 100 organizations in Charlotte wrote a vision for Charlotte's future.  On November 1 of that year, Sustain Charlotte publicly announced this vision, which we entitled Charlotte 2030: A Sustainable Vision for Our Region.  It was well received by the community and widely covered in local media

Since that time, Sustain Charlotte has worked tirelessly to spread awareness of this vision, and highlight the efforts of individuals and organizations who are helping us achieve it through our monthly e-newsletter and daily updates via our social media channels.

To raise further awareness of the 2030 Vision, and formally recognize those members of our community who are leading the way towards this vision, we are holding an event on March 31 at UNC-Charlotte's new Center City Building in partnership with their Graduate Program in Urban Design

During the event we will honor the top nominees with an award, and there will be one award for each of the ten areas of the Vision, plus two additional awards:  Outstanding Educator or Student Work and Overall Outstanding Leader.

We are pleased to report that we more than 70 individuals were nominated -- reflecting the fact that becoming a sustainable community is indeed a community effort.

We hope you'll join us on the 31st to help us celebrate the encouraging progress towards the 2030 Vision over this past year, and honor those who are leading us towards a brighter, more vibrant future for our city!
