Are you interested in learning more about the mystery behind locks and the tools used to open them? Are you curious as to how they work, how we use them, and how they can be opened without keys? Perhaps you are already a seasoned picker and want to show off your skills! Come attend the TOOOL Lock Picking Workshop to learn, practice, or show off!

The TOOOL Lockpick Workshop is a fun physical security demonstration and participation workshop run by The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers, a non-profit organization.  Learn about the history behind mechanical locks, experiment with exotic lock designs, and test your skills against your friends and others. Open for novices and experts alike.

TOOOL and other community members will be on hand with plenty of trial locks, picks, shims, and other devices.  By exploring the construction and flaws of mechanical lock designs, you can learn how to apply an engineer’s mindset in order to manipulate locks open in non-destructive ways.  Fun for makers, hackers, tinkerers, and professionals alike, the TOOOL Workshop is the place to gain a much stronger understanding about the role locks play in our physical security today.

Babak Javadi

Babak Javadi is the President of the US group of The Open Organisation of Lockpickers (TOOOL) and founder of The CORE Group.

Babak is an integral part of lockpicking workshops, games, and training sessions that are seen at events such as Black Hat, DEF CON, ShmooCon, DeepSec, CONFidence, QuahogCon, HOPE, Maker Faire, and many other events worldwide.

His first foray into the world of physical security was in the third grade, where he received detention for describing to another student in words alone how to disassemble the doorknob on the classroom door. He likes spicy food and lead-free small arms ammunition.

Deviant Ollam

While paying the bills as a security auditor and penetration testing consultant with The CORE Group, Deviant Ollam is also a member of the Board of Directors of the US division of TOOOL, The Open Organization of Lockpickers. Every year at DEFCON and ShmooCon Deviant runs the Lockpicking Village, and he has conducted physical security training sessions at Black Hat, DeepSec, ToorCon, SOURCE, HackCon, ShakaCon, QuahogCon, HackInTheBox, CanSecWest, ekoparty, and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has recently published his first book on lockpicking and his favorite Amendments to the US Constitution are, in no particular order, the 1st, 2nd, 9th, & 10th.
