Just as good user experiences can delight us and make our lives easier, the same tactics can be used to deceive and manipulate us. This talk will cover some of the most common user experience “anti-patterns,” exploring the ways to avoid these techniques, and building a case for greater awareness of the ramifications of our UX decisions.

Nick Disabato – who goes by nickd on the internet and elsewhere – is an interaction designer from Chicago. Currently he’s most noted for crowdfunding, writing, and self-publishing Cadence & Slang, a small book about his field.

He’s spoken about user experience issues at conferences and meetups like SxSW and Refresh Chicago, and is active in his local design community. He loves writing and talking about design issues, and currently works at a UX-focused consultancy.

In his spare time, Nick rides his bike, and he likes craft beer a lot. He tweets at @nickd.
