Topics to be covered:
1. Basic Machine safety do's and don'ts
2. Measuring Basics - Proper use&care of Micrometers, Proper use&care of Vernier Calipers
3. Machining basics - General safety Do's and Don'ts, Basic calculations (IE - Cutting speed), common mistakes.
4. Basic concepts of milling - Climb milling VS Conventional milling, pitfalls of milling machines, specific issues with the small mill to look out for.
5. Basic milling setup - How to safely secure a part to the mill to work on it, the different vices that site3 has and their uses, How to find an edge to within .015" without an edge finder, choosing the right cutter for your application.
6. Basic milling - The nitty gritty... Selecting cut depth, and how to make a cut without killing yourself or others
7. Basic concepts of turning - How turning works, dangers of lathes, specific issues with the small benchtop lathe.
8. Basic lathe setup - Do's and Don'ts of mounting a part in the lathe chuck. Cutter types, cutter alignment and why that is IMPORTANT!
9. Basic turning - Dialing in a cut and taking it. Facing operations, turning operations, drilling on a lathe.
10. Covering any questions that arise throughout the day, or questions on specific projects/problems


The instructor will also provide a basic information booklet on how to use the various machines.
