Course Description:
A staggering 80% of female dental professionals experience work-related neck and shoulder pain due to unique muscle imbalances to which they are predisposed.  In this ground-breaking seminar that focuses on neck and shoulder pain, attendees will learn WHY women in dentistry are more prone to neck and shoulder pain and HOW to prevent it.  Certain loupes can actually worsen your spinal health!  Discover the 3 essential criteria for selecting magnification that benefits your health.  Learn how certain movements, equipment positioning and postures in the operatory are impacting your physical health.  Implement effective ergonomic and exercise strategies that you can apply immediately to reduce work-related pain, prevent injury and increase career longevity.  A must for those purchasing new magnification!

Course Objectives:

  • Learn how certain postures, positions and body mechanics contribute to neck and shoulder pain in dentistry
  • Identify muscle imbalances that can cause neck and shoulder pain among female dental professionals
  • Proper selection of exercise to prevent painful imbalances
  • Optimal features, selection and adjust of magnification systems to prevent neck pain

Bethany Valachi, PT, MS, CEAS is a physical therapist, dental ergonomic consultant.   She provides research-based dental ergonomic education and evaluates dental products.  She is clinical instructor of ergonomics at OHSU School of Dentistry in Portland, OR, and has provided expertise on dental ergonomics to faculty and students at numerous dental universities and hygiene schools, including faculty training at New York University College of Dentistry.  As a certified ergonomic assessment specialist, she also consults with practicing dental professionals to improve ergonomics, work more comfortably and extend their careers.
