From founding The Webby Awards to being a passionate advocate for The National Day of Unplugging, Shlain’s love/hate relationship with technology serves as the springboard for a thrilling exploration of modern life…and our interconnected future.

As Shlain’s father battles brain cancer and she confronts a high-risk pregnancy, her very understanding of connection is challenged. She reveals the surprising ties that link us not only to the people we love but also to the world at large. A personal film with universal relevance, Connected explores how, after centuries of declaring our independence, it may be time for us to declare our interdependence instead.

  A Human Right is a grassroots organization charged with bringing Internet access to the almost five billion people who do not have it and ensuring that Internet access is considered a basic human right. This is accomplished through a number of initiatives that bring about awareness and bridge the digital divide.

Our latest initiative is called "The Bandwidth Bank" - and is an effort to take the world's unused bandwidth and put it to work for social and humanitarian causes. The effort is in partnership with AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, and The United Nations- who will be using the bandwidth specifically for disaster relief.

 The British Columbia First Nations Technology Council supports the full integration of technologies to improve the quality of life for all First Nations in British Columbia. A Human Right is proud to be a partner and support their efforts. Half of tonights proceeds will be shared with the Council and used to support their kids technology camps throughout communities.

 Thanks is also due to Reel Causes, a not for profit organization that hosts social film screening events in which film fans and the community at large enjoy an evening of high quality films for the benefit of a different cause every month. Events are all 100% volunteer organized, and 100% of proceeds go to benefit the charity/cause of the month. Events highlight issues that require community attention for the purposes of triggering change, through the screening of films focusing mainly on issues such as poverty, disease and other humanitarian causes. A Human Right is honored to be supported by Reel Causes.
