Event Details

2012 Irish Week

Each March, a delegation from Dublin visits San Jose for Irish Week, an annual week of events produced by the San Jose – Dublin Sister City Program. 

This year’s delegation will be led by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague, along with Dublin City Councilors and representatives from the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Digital Hub, Dublin Institute of Technology and Failte Ireland.

Also in attendance will be San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, San Jose City Council members, Mary Kane, President of Sister Cities International and a wide array of Silicon Valley CEOs, business professionals and community leaders.

Friday, March 9

8:00 a.m. - Irish Week Welcome Breakfast*

Silicon Valley Capital Club, 50 W. San Fernando, San Jose

* Limited Breakfast seating–no tickets will be sold at the door.


10:00 a.m. - Flag Raising Ceremony

San Jose City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose

The national anthem of both countries will be sung by the children’s choir of St. John Vianney.

Saturday, March 10

6:30 p.m. -  2012 Spirit of Ireland Award Dinner

Honoring Mary Ellen and Michael E. Fox, Sr.

San Jose Marriott, 301 South Market Street, San Jose

Social Hour: 6:30 p.m., Dinner: 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $150, Black Tie Optional            


Sunday, March 11

2:00 p.m. - Buried Child - Winner of the 1979 Pulitzer Prize, by Sam Shepard

Directed by Kenneth Kelleher, this powerful and brilliant play probes deep into the disintegration of the American Dream. Buried Child has been called one of Shepard's best plays.

Founded in 1986, the mission of the San José - Dublin Sister City Program is to develop cultural, economic, artistic and sporting ties between San Jose and Dublin as well as Silicon Valley.
