California Renewable Energy Status Update

Guest Speaker:

ROBERT B. WEISENMILLER, Ph.D
Chair

California Energy Commission

Through guidance from the legislature (AB 32 and SB 1X 2) and the Governor’s Clean Energy Jobs plan, California has goals of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels, procure 33 percent of our retail sales from renewable resources, and install 20,000 MW of renewable capacity in California all by 2020. We have already made strides by permitting 16,000 MW of new renewable capacity in California in 2010 and 2011. Within the 20,000 MW target, the Governor has specified that 12,000 MW are distributed close to load. This is important to help stimulate local economies and get California citizens back to work in their own communities. Chair Weisenmiller will touch on these issues as well as briefly discuss next steps for implementation of the RPS and past POU form streamlining efforts.
