Sustainable 19125 is happy to introduce our new Deep Green Seminars, a place where people interested in urban sustainability and the complexities of environmental conservation can speak with and learn from experts in various fields.

On Tuesday, January 24th from 6-7pm, our guest Alex Dews, the Program & Policy Director at the Mayor's Office of Sustainability (MOS), will speak on the challenges of urban sustainability from the city government's perspective, covering some best and not-so-great practices in urban greening and what we can learn from each. Alex will also be talking about how to meet the challenge of changing people's behavior with regard to sustainability.

So, bring your friends, questions, and an appetite to learn!

Sustainable 19125

Sustainable 19125 is a broad and innovative partnership among community residents, businesses, and numerous government, nonprofit, and for profit partners to green the Fishtown, Olde Richmond, and East Kensington neighborhoods of Philadelphia. Its goal is to make 19125 the most sustainable zip code in the city. This community-driven initiative is led by New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC), with support from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS).

We have three broad initiatives:

The Big Green Block:  building green infrastructure in the community.

Walk, Bike, Ride:  a non-car focused transportation campaign.

Green Blocks:  focusing on easy, resident-driven actions that make the neighborhood a healthier, greener place to live, work, and play.
