Michael Emery returns to present his popular lecture that examines the gravestones of the Pennsylvania Germans as accessible pieces of public art as well as historic markers. Although this presentation will focus great emphasis on the sandstone markers of Lancaster, Lebanon, and Berks Counties of the 18th century, the history of the Pennsylvania German Gravestones will be recounted up to circa 1900.

Following the lecture, Michael will lead attendees to the Dritt Family Cemetary, located behind the Zimmerman Center, to examine the gravestones located there. Please wear sturdy shoes - trail is moderate in difficulty.

Please note this lecture will be held Sunday Afternoon

Michael Emery is a Museum Educator at Landis Valley Museum and holds a B.A. in History from Penn State University. Michael has been on the Landis Valley Museum Staff since 2005. Since 1997 he has worked for the PHMC interpreting Pennsylvania German life at the Conrad Weiser and Daniel Boone Homesteads. Michael has extensive family in southeastern Pennsylvania and was raised in the farming community of Honey Brook Township, Chester County.
