COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is intended to review the basic anatomy, biomechanics, examination, and intervention for the most common disorders of the temporomandibular joint. Updated nomenclature, classification schemes, and evidence-based interventions will also be discussed.
COURSE OBJECTIVES At the end of this course attendees will be able to…
use appropriate nomenclature when discussing TMD with other professionals commonly treating TMD.
list the major classifications of TMD.
discuss the basic anatomy and biomechanics of the TMJ.
discuss the pathomechanics of common TMDs.
conduct a basic interview with a patient complaining of oralfacial pain.
perform a basic examination of a patient with oralfacial pain
select and apply basic manual techniques to patients with straight forward TMD diagnoses
develop a basic exercise prescription for patients with straight forward TMD diagnoses
recognize when referral to an appropriate specialist is warranted.
