An evening of meditative and impassioned classical Persian music with two of the foremost master musicians in the world of traditional music today. Featuring Maestro Hossein Alizadeh, Persian composer, Tar and Setar player with Pejman Hadadi on percussion, this concert promisses to be a special night to remember.  As part of a United States and Canada Tour, this concert is inspired by the artists collaboration on their recording Monad released by Hermes records in 2009. This concert in Berkeley will be distinct from the CD as it will be based on the art of improvisation, one of the key elements of the music, based on the musicians feeling and innovation in the moment, in Farsi called "haal".  With the masterful combination of these two musicians, this will be a very unique and rare opportunity to experience the music in it's finest form.

Maestro (Ostad) Hossein Alizadeh is an important figure in the world of contemporary classical Persian music today.  A renowned composer, researcher, instructor, editor and performer, Hossein Alizadeh is a professor of music at the University of Tehran and the Tehran Conservatory of Music. For many years the conductor and soloist for the Iranian National Orchestra.  His tireless effort to increase the profile of classical Persian music can be seen in numerous recordings and film scores. Today Mr. Alizadeh's work can also be seen in the Hamavayan Ensemble, created in 1989, to bring a new approach to traditional Persian music and singing, where compositions can be found in the New Secret, Gabbeh, Songs of Compassion and Endless Vision. He also has recorded and performed around the world with the leading masters of Persian music.
