Event Details

This event is a combined monthly Lunch 'n' Learn meeting and audio conference of the Association of Government Accountants (Des Moines Chapter).

Please join us for the Lunch 'n Learn as we listen to Kristy Maitre from the Internal Revenue Service giving us an annual "IRS Update" at 11:30 a.m.  Note: 2 additional lunch choices (Salad & Flatbread sandwich combo) have been added to the Quizno's meal options.

The audio conference will follow with the topic, "The New Stewardship Imperative - Federal Financial Management at the Crossroads" at 1:00 p.m. There are major “drivers” bearing down on government financial management these days, such as the continuing national economic crisis. In the meantime, Congress is wrangling on the Hill to cut $1.5 trillion to $4.0 trillion in government spending over the next 10 years while the national election looms in November 2012. These drivers are putting tremendous emphasis on cost containment, savings, recouping lost dollars, jettisoning wasteful programs and spending. This audio conference will describe techniques and tools that are proving effective in responding to these pressures.

To share their knowledge and expertise in government financial management and government operations are three Grant Thornton executives: Nilesh Chudasama, senior manager, Tom Cocozza, director, and James G. Huse Jr., senior adviser.

One CPE is offered for the lunch meeting and two CPE are offered for the audio conference (3 CPE total for the event). This meeting will take place in the Knudsen Room of the Jessie Parker Building.

Community Service focus for the month of February is National Federation for the Blind.  Attendees may make monetary donations at the February meeting.
