Women’s Network for a Sustainable Future (WNSF), whose mission is to advance sustainability through the commitment, talent, and leadership of businesswomen, is delighted to invite you to a networking lunch on Wednesday, 25 January 2012.  

This event, which is part of quarterly lunchtime series, is an opportunity to engage with senior women business leaders on the topic of sustainability.

Laura Turner Seydel is generously hosting this luncheon in her LEED Gold certified home, the EcoManor. Laura will be joined by Karen Flanders, Board Member of WNSF and Lisa Spiro, President of WNSF in a lively and interactive discussion on the top five things all businesswomen need to know about sustainability. 

 

 Laura Turner Seydel is a national environmental advocate and eco-living expert   dedicated to creating a healthy and sustainable future for our children. Laura is  chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation, which promotes environmental education and gardens in schools, and Zero Waste Zone, an organization that promotes communities working together to change current disposal methods of consumed products. She co-founded Mothers and Others for Clean Air and the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. Laura serves on her family’s foundation boards including The Turner Foundation, Jane Smith Turner Foundation, the Turner Endangered Species Fund, and Ted’s Montana Grill. She serves on national boards including League of Conservation Voters, Defenders of Wildlife, Waterkeeper Alliance, the Green Schools Alliance and Environmental Working Group, and is the recipient of numerous humanitarian and environmental awards. Laura is a contributing eco-editor and environmental speaker, and lives with her husband and her three children in their home, EcoManor, the first LEED certified Gold residence in the Southeast.

 Karen Flanders is a Board Member of Women’s Network for a Sustainable  Future and is a Strategic Advisor of the Prince of Wales’s Business &  Sustainability Program.Karen has more than 20 years of sustainability  experience having worked domestically and internationally within corporations,  NGOs as well as intergovernmental organizations. Formerly Karen was the  Director of Sustainability at The Coca-ColaCompany. As such, Karen was  responsible for leading and embedding the global sustainability strategy into the  beverage giant’s brands and business - contributing to sustainable growth and  sustainable communities. Prior to joining Coke, Karen lived and worked in Europe for 12 years and  led European and global advocacy campaigns for WWF - the conservation organization. She was  named one of the Top Women in business by Pink Magazine in 2007 and made Who’s Who in  America in 2008.

Lisa Spiro, President, Women’s Network for a Sustainable Future. A former journalist and banker Lisa has spent more than two decades working as a communications strategist on leadership, ethical governance and reputation risk management. Recognizing the implications of deregulation, technology, globalization and environmental risk Lisa initiated and implemented vanguard projects for progressive CEO’s and corporates. Her interest in ethics and governance was stimulated by her work with Salomon Brothers and UBS. Other clients have included HSBC, NASD International, ABN Amro, Dresdner Bank and Lazards. Lisa is also President of Oxygen Capital which provides strategic advice and introduces international clients to new sources of capital, makes cross border connections and forges private, public and not for profit partnerships.

Founded in 2000 in New York, WNSF strives to help women leaders move beyond understanding to unlocking sustainability as a strategic advantage. WNSF provides a forum for women to drive responsible change. It is a network of knowledgeable practitioners who encourage and educate women who value sustainability as a strategic imperative. WNSF provides a platform for knowledge transfer, capacity building, and interaction to foster women leaders in sustainability.
