We apologize for the cancelation. It is possible that this workshop will be made available again in the late spring or summer. To be updated about upcoming workshops, feel free to sign up for our online newsletter here: http://portlandpsychotherapyclinic.com/workshops.html

This half-day workshop will present an overview of “Radical ACT”, an elegantly simplified ACT protocol developed at the Togus VA Medical Center outside of Augusta, Maine. This protocol has been intensively developed over a number of years to make it easily understandable and accessible to clients. This treatment package can be readily adapted for a variety of client presentations and is accessible to practitioners of various levels of expertise and experience. The components will be presented in a strategic order, their applicability in group and individual sessions will be discussed, and techniques will be presented in a participatory format. Attendees will walk away from this workshop with a variety of new methods to incorporate into their practices for helping clients to be more mindful and values-directed.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This workshop is designed for practitioners new to the ACT model and for intermediates who are trying to assimilate the full model into their work. No previous experience with ACT is necessary, although some familiarity will likely be helpful. The workshop will be participatory, in that it will involve collaborative demonstrations of the treatment, and only mildly experiential.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES (3.5 CE credits available)

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be familiar with:

1.                  the functional contextual philosophy that guides ACT treatment.

2.                  a sensible means of organizing the sequence of ACT interventions.

3.                  simple interventions for each of the six ACT processes of the Hexaflex.

PROVIDER

Chad Drake, Ph.D., has been an active student and researcher of ACT and Relational Frame Theory for the past 7 years. He received graduate training at the University of Mississippi under Kelly Wilson, co-author of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: An Experiential Approach to Behavior Change. His internship with Kevin Polk and Jerold Hambright at the VA Medical Center in Togus, Maine, involved development of “Radical ACT”, an elegantly simplified protocol for ACT treatment of veterans with PTSD.
