This event is a combined monthly Lunch 'n' Learn meeting and audio conference of the Association of Government Accountants (Des Moines Chapter).

Please join us for the Lunch 'n Learn as we listen to Karen Keninger, Director of the Iowa Department for the Blind, speaking about "Department for the Blind's Resources and Services" at 11:30 a.m.

The audio conference will follow with the topic, "Getting a Handle on Internal Controls" at 1:00 p.m. This audio conference addresses the elements of internal control from top management to operating levels. It includes the consequences of failing to pay attention to organization operations and the internal control environment, so often overlooked by auditors and management alike. Major inefficiencies creep into organizations with little or no internal controls, creating an environment where fraud, waste and abuse can, and often does, occur.

To share his knowledge and expertise about internal controls is William D. Miller, CGFM, CIA, county auditor, Johnson County, KS, and member of AGA’s National Executive Committee.

One CPE is offered for the lunch meeting and two CPE are offered for the audio conference (3 CPE total for the event).

Community Service focus for the month of January is National Federation for the Blind.  Attendees may make monetary donations at the January meeting.
