Please join the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, the Korth Family Foundation, and the West Michigan Strategic Alliance on March 9 as we welcome an inspiring speaker and leading proponent and practitioner of green infrastructure, Scott Bernstein of the Center for Neighborhood Technology. Green infrastructure—an interconnected network of green space and other environmental assets—provides bottom line economic benefits to businesses and communities. Bernstein and the Center for Neighborhood Technology are on the cutting edge of developing green infrastructure tools and projects in the Chicago region that demonstrate the economic savings of this innovative work, especially in the area of water quality protection. From detailed mapping of green infrastructure resources in a 14-county region to the creation of a web base calculator that demonstrates cost savings when using “green interventions” for development projects, Bernstein will show how a green investment will save money, support sustainability and make better use of limited resources. Additional information about Bernstein and the Center for Neighborhood Technology can be found below. Following Bernstein’s talk, Greg Northrup, President of the West Michigan Strategic Alliance, will share information about green infrastructure actions in West Michigan. The Alliance has made protecting environmental assets and green infrastructure a top priority in the region to make West Michigan the best place to live, work and play. The morning event takes place Thursday, March 9 at the Prince Conference Center at Calvin College and is open to the public. The cost, including a continental breakfast, is $15. Registration is at 7:30 am, Bernstein’s talk begins at 8:00 am. For reservations, please contact the Land Conservancy of West Michigan at 616-451-9476 or email lcwm@naturenearby.org
