Come join us for a morning of wonderful speakers on the subjects that affect our

family’s lives. Attend the Keynote and choose one of the six Breakout Sessions.

Refreshments will be provided.

This is a free event that is open to the public.

Stress and Achievement: How Much is Enough?

Dr. Michael P. Maniacci 

Have you ever asked yourself if you should be pushing your child more or have you ever wondered if your child is too stressed? Dr. Maniacci will explore the the role of stress in your child's life and help you answer the question - How much is enough?  Dr. Maniacci is a licensed clinical psychologist, author, and one of our most popular speakers. Join us for his insightful and informative keynote presentation.

This PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) presentation will focus on how your family can become involved and have a voice in this positive support system utilizing techniques that are being implemented within the school environment and that are applicable for the family environment too.

Promoting a Love of Reading at Home

Do you want to see your children more engaged in reading activities outside of school? This session will address ways parents can promote the love of reading at home. Simple, effective strategies and resources will be shared with parents.

and How You Parent
Dr. Maniacci 

Dr.Maniacci will give details on how the presence (or absence) of siblings impacts your child's personality. Find out more about the roles of "oldest", "only", "second", "middle", and "youngest", and how you can adapt your own parenting style to best suit your individual child - no matter what place they fall in the family.

Natural Cook: Clean Eating Strategies
Jo Cessna 

This session will inspire and equip you with strategies to eat more healthy. The presentation will explore creative ways to get hydrated, grocery shopping tips, caring for and storing produce, "tote-able" foods for backpack or desk, and organizing the refrigerator/pantry with investment foods that make your weekly food preparation easy and fast. There will be a demonstration and sampling of recipes.

Batavia Special Education Parent Network:
The ABCs and 123s of IEPs
Jessica Nicholsen and Lisa Palese 

Navigating the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process can be challenging. The Batavia Special Education Parent Network presents this session to equip the parents of special education students with strategies to effectively participate in the IEP process. In this presentation, parents will learn the basics of advocating for their children's special needs. There will be a discussion panel at the end of the presentation for participants and staff members to discuss navigating the educational process.

Boardmaker Make and Take Session
Rona Henne, OTR/L and Assistive Techology Specialist 

Is your special education student using Boardmaker visuals at school to help them communicate, learn or manage their behavior?  Would you like to make some of your own Boardmaker visuals for use at home or in the community during this session?  If so, please plan to attend!  The basic features of Boardmaker will be presented and the session will include hands-on computer time. Beyond this session, you can access this software by visiting the Batavia Public Library.  (If you are unsure if your student uses Boardmaker visuals at school, please contact his/her case manager.) eds. There will be a discussion panel at the end of the presentation for participants and staff members to discuss navigating the educational process.

Registration begins December 23, 2011 for the Batavia Parent Academy - Parent University on January 28, 2012.  Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for check-in and refreshments, and the keynote speaker presentation begins at 9:00 a.m.
