This is a by-invitation-only meeting of bioscience women executives and allied service providers affiliated with SoCalBio to encourage networking and mutual support among bioscience women executives and company managers.

We are pleased to present the following two speakers

  • Elena Medo. Chairman & CEO, Neolac (Murrieta)

Ms Medo is a serial entrepreneur and will address the dos and donts of capital raising. She is an expert in women’s health initiates and a pioneer in introducing specialty products to maternal and neonatal markets, both domestically and internationally, Ms. Medo launched and secured funding for three medical device companies over the last two decades. As the Chairman and CEO of Neolac, Inc., she continues to create new technologies for support of preterm infants. Ms. Medo holds a Masters of Business Administration from University of California.

  • Shenda Baker, PhD, President, Synedgen (Claremont)

Dr. Shenda Baker received her B. S. in Chemistry and French from Grinnell College in 1985. After receiving her PhD in1991 in Physical Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology, she took a postdoctoral position at the Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center using neutron scattering to examine structural properties of polymer thin films. In 1993, Dr. Baker became the Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Harvey Mudd College where she received tenure in 1999 and full professor in 2004. After a sabbatical year in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts in 1999/2000 and at Synedgen in 2006/7, she continues research in interfaces, polymeric thin films and nanoscopic manipulation to create biosensors and arrays. Other interests and activities include national science policy, developing national and international outreach programs and developing and sustaining national cyberinfrastructure, cyberscience and national user facilities facilities.

The Southern California Biomedical Council is a nonprofit, member-supported trade association that supports and promotes life-science research, development, manufacturing, job creation and overall economic growth in the six counties that comprise the Greater Los Angeles region (Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Riverside and San Bernardino). The Council’s programs help local firms gain access to capital, potential partners and business support services. SoCalBio also promotes technology transfer and workforce training, while informing policy makers and the public at-large about the benefits of the region’s life-science industry.  SoCalBio is open to membership by firms and organizations engaged in life-science technology development and commercialization.
