Getting in with the Mom Crowd:

Gaining critical exposure with Mommy Bloggers

Nearly 4 million women with children maintain blogs, and moms are more likely than the average person to consult blogs for ideas, advice and recommendations. Mommy Bloggers are a hot demographic, but it isn’t always easy to determine which moms to pitch and how to pitch them. Our panel will offer tips and tricks for selling your story to the people who hold the critical influential blogging power over America’s moms – an audience that increasingly is managing the household budget and making key household decisions. (One big lesson: Some of them HATE being called “Mommy Bloggers.”) We’ll also entertain a broader discussion about the importance of this demographic.

Panelists:

Beth Engelman, a former teacher who writes the popular “Mommy on a Shoestring” column for the Pioneer Press and maintains the Mommy on a Shoestring blog/website. Beth is a regular on WCIU-TV in Chicago and has written multiple articles on the subject of having fun while being frugal.

Cindy Richards, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist and mom of two who writes the Suitcase Packin’ Mama blog as well as the TravelingMomwithTeens blog at TravelingMom.com, where she also serves as editor. Additionally, Cindy contributes stories to Chicago Parent and is a long-time journalist who has worked as a reporter, editor and/or columnist at the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune and been an editor at Chicago Parent.

Moderator:

Mike Barzacchini, a 20-year public relations and marketing veteran who heads up the Marketing Department at Harper College in Palatine. Mike has developed communication campaigns for health care providers, state government agencies, manufacturers, and consumer service companies.
