CalArts School of Theater to present workshop of Taco Time,
A project from the Writing for Performance Program
California Institute of the Arts School of Theater invites audiences to the playwright’s workshop of Taco Time written by Isabel Salazar (MFA 2) and directed by Marina McClure (MFA 3). The readings will be held in Butler Building 2 at the California Institute of the Arts (24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia) on Friday, December 9, 2011 and Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 8:00pm with a 5:00 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Playwright Isabel Salazar’s previous work includes (No Comas Tomates antes de Dormir porque Tendrás Pesadillas, which was presented last January at the Arts in One World conference at CalArts.
A Texas native, Salazar’s play stems from the summer that she and her neighbors became obsessed with the Food Network. At the height of her culinary exploration, each meal became a possibility for Isabel to become the new Food Network Star.
“This show is about jobs. It’s about family,” says Salazar. “It’s about trying to make situations better when there's no alternative left.”
