“All is perfect, so perfectly perfect!” -- The Isa Upanishad

The Upanishads – sacred writings revealed to the sages of the Vedic civilization perhaps 5,000 years ago, are (along with the Vedas) the oldest expression of the spiritual wisdom which underlies all religions. Within their precise poetry, we find a mystical vision of the deep unifying intelligence which is, and which permeates, all of creation.The Upanishads serve as sacred texts of Hinduism, and have influenced modern thinkers such as Goethe, Yeats and Emerson. Their profound explorations about the nature of reality, the unity and interconnectedness of all things, and the peace to be found within that understanding and self-knowledge – the very heart of the Vedic revelation – are the core of most modern spirituality.

Join Rev. David Wallace for a six week exploration of these extraordinary texts. Taught seminar style, we will together read and discuss the major Upanishads along with parts of the Vedas, and share some experiential time as well. No prior knowledge is expected, and no advanced reading is required.

Faculty:

Rev. David Wallace is an Interfaith Minister and 2nd year dean for One Spirit
Interfaith Seminary. He is a graduate of St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM, and a
lifelong student of the “great books” of philosophy and archetypal psychology. David has
an extensive career in publishing and marketing, along with award winning work through
his own retail galleries. He has been a consultant to FAO Schwarz , was a founding board
member of the teaching facility at Miriam’s Well, in Saugerties, New York, and served
on the worship committee and board of Judson Memorial Church in New York, where he
has preached and taught centering prayer. An active officiant, David is also involved with
the Alzheimer’s Association of NY, serves as a certified Spiritual Disaster Care Chaplain
for the City of New York, and teaches electives on the sacred texts of both the Eastern
and Western traditions for One Spirit.
