IBM Cognos BI Administration

IBM Cognos 10 provides a rich set of tools with a clear view into system metrics, allowing the administrator to monitor and manage environment agnostic installations including failover and load balancing capabilities. Even with this comprehensive administrative capability, maintaining complex installations without a proper understanding of the Cognos architecture can lead administrative resources to often become overwhelmed. Without diligent oversight, in time, the system itself may become fragile and resistant to change leading to service level agreements not being met.

Based on a proven training curriculum, the Ironside Group will provide instructor-led classes that highlight the key administrative capabilities available in the newest release of the IBM Cognos 10 suite of BI tools.

Course Outline

This three day class is best suited for new system administrators who need the ability to manage both content (one day) and servers (two days).

Through a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises, students will set up the IBM Cognos 10 BI system, implement security and manage the server components. Students will also learn to monitor and schedule tasks, create data sources, and manage deployment content. The exercises used in the class are based on techniques developed in the field by our consultants, and as such will not be found in any other classes.

Each topic will be highlighted with in-depth workshops, Q&A sessions and tips and techniques drawn from over 15 plus years of cross industry experience.

Observations

The curriculum is based on the most recent version of IBM Cognos 10, and uses the sample data sources included in the IBM Cognos BI 10 Samples package. For an even more enriching experience, the course content can be entirely customized to any customer’s environment, including, but not limited to the tutorials and workshops.

All of our instructors are IBM Cognos certified server administrators. In addition, they provide the benefit of having up to 15 years of real-world experience.

Our manuals are aimed at self-study.

Pre-requisites

A good comprehension of Microsoft Windows and the Office suite is mandatory.

An understanding of the standard IBM Cognos 10 BI portal (Cognos Connection) is a benefit.
