WATERMELONS IN MY BACK POCKET

“Watermelons In My Back Pocket” is a spin off of Empress Joyner’s premier production “The Ass Chronicles”.  It is one-woman show that testifies and proclaims positive body image in a world obsessed with skinny and plagued with low self-esteem.  Told by Little Calypso Blue, a sassy, smart but confident little girl who identifies with her diverse family dynamics and how each unique person in it has influenced how she embraces who she is with the watermelons in her back pocket.

I KILLED MY BABYS DADDY

Takes a look into the transformation that occurs when an older woman has a child with a younger man. This solo work tracks a woman’s journey falling in and out of love, struggling with the pains of birth and raising a child. This humorous and inventive story gives voice to women who find themselves abandoned by love, left with a baby, and asking God what’s next.  I Killed My Baby’s Daddy forces the audience to hear all the things that some mothers’ feel but are forbidden to say.  The play gives voice and agency to African – American inner city women.

These two one-woman shows will take you on an unforgettable journey into the lives of women facing issues that millions of woman face everyday.  In one night you will laugh, cry, reflect and get inspired by these two great pieces.
