Program Description

This 16-hour Train the Trainer workshop provides the evidence, knowledge and skills participants need to confidently train nurses on early mother-infant attachment and breastfeeding in the hospital setting.  It will highlight the teaching techniques and tools necessary to enhance the classroom experience.  Emphasis will be on honoring the nurses’ feelings and building her confidence in her clinical skills.

It is designed  as a Staff Training Curriculum to meet the Baby-Friendly USA 4-D Pathway Guidelines, 2010 Edition.

This workshop is lively and participatory with interactive activities. It is limited to 25 participants.

We will provide participants with a CD containing the PowerPoint to teach Birth and Beyond .

Objectives

 Following the didactic presentations, participants will be able to:

¨ Identify a variety of teaching methods;

¨ State the importance of connecting to participants when teaching;

¨ Coordinate and teach a portion of the ‘Birth & Beyond Los Angeles” curriculum; 

¨ Demonstrate appropriate responses to challenging teaching situations.

Participants should bring:

¨ Laptop computer

¨ Baby doll

¨ 1”-2” empty binder
