For those of you who have always wanted to try belly dancing, here's your class!! Bring your friends, your neighbors, your aunts, your sisters, your daughters -- your fabulous librarians! -- and shimmy your way through winter.
Unleash your primal energies and unlock your body from its daily postures through the ancient art of belly dance with Melina. Designed for students with little-to-no belly dance experience who would like to learn the basic movements of belly dance and enjoy themselves while getting a great work out. Bring a water bottle to class and wear comfortable clothes you easily move and sweat in. Class is conducted barefoot or wear socks or soft ballet slippers. No sneakers or dance shoes, please.
In the course of the Level I session you will learn sinuous and staccato hip movements, spine-awakening body isolations and undulations, wild shimmies and snake arms from a friendly, down-to-earth & articulate teacher with a lifetime of experience. Dance to the beautiful rhythms of the Middle East, Turkey, North Africa and modern fusion belly dance tunes as well. Melina will carefully break down moves and explain which foot to step on, where to put your weight, how to protect your back and remind you to keep breathing as you explore this intricate and fun art form.
You can also choose to purchase a 10-class punch card in class, good for any of Melina's large group belly dance classes. Or, drop in to a single class for $20, payable at the door. More info at 781 209 0950.
