SESSION OVERVIEW:
This course:
* introduces ideas of culture,
* helps develop a sense of the participant’s own culture and
* how it impacts upon others, and
* looks at ways of understanding and reaching out to those with different cultures.
* it uses everyday language and familiar situations to help participants understand how people interact in the workplace and
* how they can use that interaction to work
across cultural differences
* we look at issues such as:
- personal space and
- sense of time,
- how language can be a barrier or can be used for effective communication
and
- how cultural preconceptions can affect the way you treat someone.
SESSION CONTENT
* learning to identify and understand cultural differences
* developing a greater sensitivity and awareness of different cultures and their norms
* understanding and enjoying your own cultural background and the
* backgrounds of other people.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES & OUTCOMES:
The participants should develop an understanding of cultural issues and their impact upon working life, as well as a basis for clear cross-cultural
communication in the workplace.
