Hadoop and the future of data warehousing
The Hadoop filesystem for unstructured data, and the various tools that operate with it, is emerging as a disruptive technology for traditional data warehousing. Hadoop enables analysts to capture and query large, unstructured data sets, from application logs to web clicks to twitter feeds. How are organisations taking advantage of this technology, how are they integrating it into their analytical application ecosystem, and what does the future hold for traditional approaches to data warehousing when Hadoop seems to provide so many shortcuts to business value?

Mark Burnard has consulted in Information Management Strategy over many years, providing advice to clients including banks, airlines, universities and utilities. He has covered most aspects of the traditional data warehouse lifecycle, from requirements definition to high level solution design, technology selection, data modelling and implementation. Mark currently works for EMC Greenplum, and keeps up to date with developments in vendor and open source offerings in data management, including Hadoop.
