SUPERVISED VISITATION:  WHAT IT IS AND IS NOT!
In child custody conflict situations, whether they involve child care and protection, divorce, domestic violence, or maybe paternity or post divorce disputes, supervised visitations are often court-ordered. Get answers to these questions: How can supervision support parenting arrangements? What distinguishes the role of the supervisor from a GAL – including limits on competency to testify in court? Julia Brice has been a social worker and human service provider since 1986.  She has worked through community, government, and private non‐profit agencies as a child protective worker, battered women’s advocate, preschool teacher, and parenting instructor and coach. 

In 1994, after being featured in the Boston Globe for her work in the field of supervised visitation, she co‐founded Children’s Supervised Visitations (CSV), a nonprofit center located in Marlboro.  As executive director of CSV, she managed thousands of safe supervised visits between parents and children and oversaw the internship program for graduate students, providing training and mentoring for future visitation specialists.

The success of CSV led to the development of the Massachusetts Coalition of Supervised Visitation, of which Ms. Brice was a co‐founder and board member. As a member of the MCSV, she worked with former Chief Justice Sean Dunphy to establish practice standards for visitation supervisors.

After working in non‐profit organizations for twenty years, Ms. Brice, through Fair Play Parenting Education, now provides private supervised visitation services, parenting education and coaching, professional training, lectures, and mentoring geared to promoting best practices in the provision of supervised visitation services.
