This is a 3 - week continuation of our Fall Tuesday programming. You are welcome to sign up your child even if he or she has not participated in the fall program. Please call or email Melinda (melinda@cirquepassion.com) at Moody Street Circus at 781 209 0950 to check if there is room in the session and to reserve a spot for your child.

Calling all kids aged 7 - 12! Run away with the circus afterschool without actually having to leave home.  Circus stars Sacha and Melinda Pavlata are hosting after-school programs in their Waltham, MA headquarters, Moody Street Circus.  This brief extension session will run on Tuesday December 6, 13 and 20th at a cost of $75 per child.

Students in our Moody Street Circus Afterschool Program will practice tumbling, pyramid formation, rola bola, rolling globe, tightrope walking, trampoline, juggling skills and mini trampoline.  They will also learn the basics in circus aerial arts including cloud swing, static trapeze, rings, web, lyra and silks.

Attire:  Moody Street Circus is a gum-free, street-shoe free zone, even for parents who are dropping off and picking up!  Camp is conducted barefoot, but indoor-use only sneakers and/or acrobatic shoes are suggested for work on unicycle and low wire.  Long hair must be worn pulled back in a pony-tail or in braids.  We go upside-down on equipment and always follow the SAFETY FIRST! Rule, so: Leotards and shorts or leggings for girls, shorts and shirts that can be well-tucked in for boys.  Campers should not be worried about tucking in their shirts when they are upside down, it is very distracting and dangerous when you are learning new tricks.

*Waiver forms must be completed for each camper or participation in camp will not be allowed.  We will send you a waiver form after you have registered, or you can request one prior by emailing meinda@cirquepassion.com.

If you have any additional questions, please call Moody Street Circus at 781 209 0950.

Reviews of Moody Street Circus Director Sacha Pavlata:

Philippe Petit, renowned funambulist most recently featured in Man on Wire, writes of Sacha Pavlata:

“I met Alexandre Pavlata in 1972 at the Cirque d’Hiver of Paris.  He was helping some kids, backstage, to perfect their somersaults.  I remember the gentle yet strong way he was directing their progresses, there was a lot of joy, but the results were prompt.

As I watch Sacha over the years, becoming slowly the “best circus teacher” (his well-earned reputation today), I realized that a very special chemistry was the secret of his so unique ability:  Sacha could offer in the classes he gave, the flavor of European Circus Tradition.  He was born and raised in a traveling circus family, therefore was quickly acquainted with the constant training, the tough discipline, the respect for other artists, and the ability to understand rigging and to perform all aspects of circus profession.

But Sacha had to offer, blended to this heritage, the benefits of his own life and personality:  he has traveled all over the world, therefore mastering several languages, he had coached numerous pupils of diverse ways of life, nationalities, age, goals and talents, had become a father, and had developed a sparkling intelligence at introducing the unfamiliar to a demanding craft, with surprising results.

It is the blending of the deeply traditional world of European circuses, with a modern international expertise that made the instruction of Master Teacher Pavlata so effective, and so rich, so outstanding."

"I love this place; I want to live here! I could sleep on the trapeze!!!"  (Birthday girl Stella Hu)

"This was the most exciting party my daughter has ever attended!" (Wellesley Mom)

“My 5th grade daughter has been taking a circus class at Moody Street Circus and she loves it! Her favorite activities are the silks and the lyra. It gives her such a sense of freedom and accomplishment! I see it every time she comes back from class. Thank you Melinda and Sacha for encouraging the students to push their limits in a safe, fun environment!” --

MSC Directors and teachers Sacha and Melinda (AKA Melina of Daughters of Rhea) share extraordinary family legacies in circus and dance.

Alexandre Sacha Pavlata is a fifth-generation Czech circus artist, master aerialist and world-renown circus arts teacher.  He grew up with his traveling circus family in a wooden circus wagon which crisscrossed Europe and North Africa presenting their famous unicycle and trampoline act under big tops all over the globe. From horses to high wire and everything in between, Sacha has since performed nearly every kind of circus act you could imagine, including touring with the legendary Flying Wallendas as an integral part of their breath-taking seven-person pyramid on the high wire.

Sacha's circus heritage goes back 5 generations on both sides.  His mother, Hungarian-born Anna Dubsky, came from a long line of Risley Act performers (the acrobatic foot juggling of people), and his father, Czech-born Karl Pavlata, descended from a family of aerialists known for their great physical strength and versatility in the air. More on Sacha extraordinary life and legacy in the circus at www.cirquepassion.com.

Melinda "Melina" Pavlata, Ph.D. (AKA Melina of Daughters of Rhea) is a 2nd generation circus and belly dance artist. Her mother is belly dance pioneer Rhea of Greece, her father is folk musician singer/songwriter Phil Marsh, and her step-mother is Shakespearean actress/juggler/circus artist Cecil MacKinnon.  She grew up fully immersed in her parents' international performing lives, performing with them in the Pickle Family Circus and dancing with her mother and sister Piper (Belly Dancer of the Year 2000) on taverna stages in the ancient city of Athens, Greece.

As an adult Melinda 'Melina' has toured around the world as an aerialist, circus artist and belly dancer with Circus Flora, The Wallenda Family Circus, Cirque Rocks, Amazing Grace Circus and currently with her own circus Cirque Passion.

Melina is currently on the faculty of Kripalu where she teaches an annual summertime retreat "Wild Hips, Gypsy Heart: Belly Dance as self-empowerment."
