Event Details

The Transformational Lecture Series proudly presents Robert Bateman, internationally recognized artist, teacher, author and naturalist

Thinking Like a Mountain
Robert Bateman's realistic painting style, featuring wildlife in its habitat, encourages examination of the natural world. He is a well-known artist, naturalist and spokesman for many environmental and preservation issues. The subject of numerous books and films, his honours and awards include Officer of the Order of Canada.

The Robert Bateman Art and Environmental Education Centre at Royal Roads and Sustainability Projects will help Royal Roads University become an “off-the-grid”, carbon-neutral university and a model for environmental learning and research. These projects include:
•    Construction of the Robert Bateman Art and Environmental Education Centre to the Living Building Challenge level. The Centre will house the work of this outstanding wildlife artist and that of other artists in similar fields.
•    Restoration and protection of critical wildlife habitats on the university’s campus.
•    Treatment of waste onsite.
•    Innovations for complex transportation and power generation issues
Robert Bateman has endowed Royal Roads University with $10.7 million worth of original art, prints, photographs, archival materials and funds. The endowment not only keeps Robert Bateman’s artistic body of work in Canada, it also presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate the commitment Royal Roads has to sustainable development.

Robert Bateman will discuss the responsibilities we all share to our natural world.

Doors open at 5:00pm, lecture begins at 5:30pm.
This event is free for Cascadia members and students/emerging green builders, $10 for non-members.
