FY 2012 Medicare Billing for SNFs

FY2012 changes will significantly impact Medicare billing for SNFs. Since the implementation of MDS 3.0 and RUG IV, facilities have been faced with the challenge of accurately billing the Start of Therapy (SOT), End of Therapy (EOT) and Short-Stay Assessments. FY2012 introduces facilities to new OMRAs that will impact billing. The complexity of billing is increased as these OMRAs are combined with each other and standard scheduled assessments. MDS completion requirements of the OMRAs increase the potential to miss an assessment in the billing cycle or prompt billing adjustments after the month end close. These changes increase the risk of inaccurate billing, triggering audit, lost revenue and default payments.
