One-day Seminar:  10 November 2011

eBooks have become a major force in the publishing industry. This one-day seminar will explore the lay of the land—competing formats and standards, reading devices, eBook retail outlets—and introduce participants to the tools and techniques available for designing and producing ePub and .mobi (Kindle) files.

Charles Nix is a book designer, typographer, and design educator (and TDC Chairman of the Board). His firm, Scott & Nix, publishes books and products about science and nature. Their eBooks include: Brain Cuttings by Carl Zimmer, The Curious Death of Peter Artedi by T.W. Pietsch, Matching the Hatch by Ernest Schwiebert, and The Mayfly Guide by Al Caucci.

Location: The TDC Conference Center, 347 W 36 St, Ste 603, NY, NY 10018

Registration: Registration is required and space is limited (20 attendees max.). To register, email Carol Wahler at director@tdc.org, or call 212-633-8943.

Fee: TDC members: $275. Non-members: $350. Advance payment required (by check or credit card). Cancellation fee: $50 for cancellations less than two weeks prior to the class date.

Requirements: While not strictly required, participants will find it beneficial to bring a laptop with the Adobe Creative Suite and BBEdit (or other plain text editor) installed. A complete list of digital tools and recommended reading will be furnished to all seminar participants.
