Topic:        "How 9/11 Led Him to the Ministry"   
 
Event Description: 

 

Warren Hoy was on duty in the Pentagon on 9/11, and his experiences on that day called him to his present ministry as a Deacon in the Diocese of Monterey.

He is the Operations Officer at the Global Center for Security Cooperation, where he coordinates the activities of 26 schools and academic centers specializing in international education.  He retired from the Army in 2005, after 22 years of active duty service in Armored Cavalry, the Military Intelligence Corps, and as a Foreign Area Officer.  His active service includes tours of duty in Germany, Venezuela, Bosnia, and Iraq, as well as at Headquarters, US Southern Command and two tours in the Pentagon.  He has also served as US representative to the Conference of American Armies and to the Inter-American Defense Board at the Organization of American States.

Warren was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Diocese of Monterey in May 2009.  His ministry concentrations are in Hispanic Ministry and Young Adult Faith Formation.  Warren is also the Diocesan Media Representative and Bishop’s Spokesperson.  In addition, he serves at Carmel Mission in Carmel, and leads the Hispanic community at St. Francis of the Redwoods Church in Big Sur. 

Warren’s educational background includes a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, a Master’s in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University of New Orleans, and two bachelor’s degrees, one in Political Science and one in Modern Languages and Linguistics, both from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC.  He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College, the Venezuelan Army Infantry Officer Advanced Course, and the NATO Staff Officers’ School
