Mónica Ramírez is a the director of Esperanza: The Immigrant Women's Legal Initiative of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a project dedicated to eradicating sexual violence and gender discrimination against farmworker and low-wage immigrant women. She is a Senior Staff Attorney with SPLC’s Immigrant Justice Project. The daughter and granddaughter of migrant farmworkers, Ramirez has been a farmworker and immigrant rights advocate for more than 15 years – representing them in court and organizing a national working group to address these issues.She is the co-editor and author of selected chapters of Representing Farmworker Women Who Have Been Sexually Harassed: A Best Practices Manual and co-author of a report called Injustice On Our Plates: Immigrant Women in the U.S. Food Industry.  She is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago and The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law.

 

Ms. Ramírez will be giving a public lecture on October 27 at 4:30 pm, "Injustice on Our Plates: Understanding the Plight of Immigrant Women Employed in the U.S. Food Industry." 

 

Following the public lecture, the Rockefeller Center will be hosting a dinner for students only. Seating is limited. Please register to reserve your seat at the table.
