Data Governance From The Ground Up
This presentation will cover the major elements in creating a data governance capability including:
- Developing a data management and governance capability starting in IT.
- Developing a Data Roadmap aligned to IT and business objectives.
- The role of data architecture in establishing a data governance program.
Steven Tuften, Data Architect, Allianz Australia Insurance
For the last year, Steven has been developing a strategic data and information roadmap as well as establishing a data governance process to help manage and control tactical data issues across the organization. Steve is putting in place a program to uplift the maturity of data modeling and management across IT and is currently rolling out the necessary processes across IT to support data modelling capability.
Prior to his joiing Allianz, from 2006-2010, Steven was acting BI and Data Architect for IAG's Direct Insurance Division working on a major program of transformation of the DW platform.
Steve's current areas of interest include low impact Data Governance and frameworks for assessing Data Management Maturity.

DAMA (Data Management Association) is a not-for-profit, vendor independent association of technical and business professionals dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices for data resource management and enterprise information. The primary purpose of DAMA is to promote the understanding, development, and practice of managing data to support business strategies. DAMA has chapters and members throughout the world.
DAMA has been in operation for over 20 years in Australia and there are active DAMA chapters in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra. DAMA Sydney offers a regular speaker programme as well as regular meetings, seminars and workshops. It provides a forum for information management practitioners to network and exchange information and experiences.
